All schools who participate in the challenge will need to provide the start-up funding for its 10 teams. It is not envisaged 'cash' will be given to the children but instead each team will be awarded the money as a 'spending limit' and they must keep a set of 'profit and loss accounts' to track the use of this money. The only cash required by each team is a small 'float' to give change to customers when selling their products.
The Global Enterprise Challenge will publish at the end of the challenge, the overall project accounts. Any surplus funds will be displayed in these overall challenge accounts and will be reinvested into the challenge in following years.
Teams can go into 'loss' or 'negative equity' but this will be underwritten by the participating school.
